At First Baptist Church of James Island, we have a simple hope: to see people come to know Jesus Christ and grow in their Christian faith. We've been helping spread God's good news here in our hometown and throughout the world, and we pray that God will continue to use our congregation. Whether you've been attending church for years or haven't stepped into a sanctuary in decades, we hope you'll come and join us Sunday if you're looking for a church in our hometown.
Our church history is very rich, organized in 1869, some faithful followers saw a need to worship together. The members found a suitable house on what is now Camp and Dills Bluff Roads. The Ferguson family, owners of the house, allowed it to be used for worship services. The first shepherd to guide First Baptist Church was Reverend Green, followed by the Reverends Frayer, Briton, Weston, Whaley, Grant, Alex White, Jack Dash, Bernard J. Gadsden, Sr. and presently Charlie L. Murray, Jr. The members of this church welcome you today. It is our desire to be friendly people, giving a positive Christian witness in the spirit of worship.
When you come to join us for the first time, our ushers will be glad to help you become comfortable. If you'd like, they'll help you find the nursery, children's church (which is fully staffed and safely run), restrooms, or sanctuary.
During the service, you'll hear our faith expressed in the songs we sing, prayers we offer up and our pastor's preaching. All parts of our service are grounded in the Bible, which we are committed to upholding.
After the service, join us for a greeting with our pastor and anyone else you see. We'd all love to hear your story and share ours with you.
No matter what your Christian background is (or isn't), we hope you'll join us on Sunday. Here at First Baptist Church, you'll find that where the Spirit of Lord is, there is liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17). Our worship services start at 9:45 a.m. every Sunday. We welcome everyone-including you!
